PD 32 formatting for Dudley County Court and Family Court witness statements

PD 32 sets the physical format of a witness statement, and formatting is the easiest part of the job to get right - yet statements are still struck for the basics. For a claim at Dudley County Court and Family Court, this page condenses the layout standards into a checklist you can apply in five minutes.

The layout standards

A4 paper, single-sided where possible, with a margin of not less than 2.5cm - the binding margin matters because bundles are fastened at the left edge. Text must be legible; typed 11-12pt is the safe norm (a clear, consistent font such as Arial or a similar sans-serif reads well in bundles). Number every paragraph; keep each paragraph to one matter; express all dates and figures as numbers.

What gets statements rejected

The recurring failures are presentational: no paragraph numbers, no statement of truth in the CPR 22 wording, exhibits referenced but not attached or not marked, and bundles without continuous pagination. Any of these hands the other side an easy objection at Dudley County Court and Family Court - and the fix costs minutes, not money.
