How to behave at Edmonton County Court and Family Court (and why it matters)

Address the District Judge as 'Sir' or 'Madam'. Stand when you speak and when the judge speaks to you. Switch phones fully off - not silent. Refer to the other party as 'the claimant' or 'the defendant', never by first name or worse. Bow slightly on entering or leaving a courtroom in session. None of this requires a lawyer; all of it is noticed.

Practical presentation

Bring your indexed bundle and know its page numbers. Answer the question asked - not the one you rehearsed. If you do not know or remember something, say so; judges rate accuracy over confidence. Hand up any late document only with the judge's permission, and expect to explain why it was not served on time.
